The month of Elul is an acronym for Ani L'dodi V'dodi Li I am to my beloved and my beloved is to me. And for Es Levavcha Ves Lvav, G-d will open your heart and the heart of your children. We have a special opportunity to tap into the energy of love and compassion. By becoming a vessel ready to accept these energies we can then carry it throughout the rest of the year.
The secret of Ani L'dodi is that I take the initiative. I show that I am to my beloved by being compassionate and loving and then I can tap into the flow of compassion by reaching up from below and channeling it down.
When I would create the artwork for this.. I never would think about it. I would just turn on that song and play around with the filters in photoshop until I felt it was complete. The picture created itself.

אתערותא דלתתא inspiration/awakening from below.
By us doing actions below we awaken that attribute in higher spheres.
If you are ever in Jerusalem listen to Reb. Tarshish explain that – Maseh Avos Siman L'Banim… Simanim…
The Rebbe has amazing sichos on Ani L'dodi V'dodi Li. I hope to get back to this and elaborate more once I finish this website and learn flash… Also Rabbi Simon Jacobsohn writes about this in his book 60 Days and his website meaningfullife.com.
This song started this album…
It was Rosh Chodesh and I am in bed sleeping… and I dream this song. It sounded good but I was too lazy to get out of bed. But this song wouldn't leave me.. And it did sound nice… so I force myself out of bed and take out my tape recorder! (-didn't have yet my mini disc.) to record. My mother knocks softly on the door… whispering- "What's going on.. it's 2 AM – You are waking up the neighbors"? "Don't worry", I say, "I am tired too," and went back to bed.
And then another Rosh Chodesh Elul, and again I dream about this song – you've got to get the song out there.… It's Elul! But I am thinking to myself- I don't do this kind of music… I do new agey, world, hypnotic, organic abstract…music.. not Chasidish pop… I'll sell it to some Jewish pop star... MBD, Fried wannabes..
I am always skating to wherever I need to go. But whenever I would be in NYC and would get lazy or the weather just being impossible and would take the subway, I would bump into Todd. Todd, a musician, producer had mentioned that he had a nice setup at home and would love to work on some songs together. But it never happened. And then the next day 11:00 PM I call Todd. "I have some music let's record." My intention was just to record the song, have some fun with it, maybe have some basic music put down and then just give it away to someone.
While Todd was working on the music for Ani L'dodi, he says – "I have a new music track – why don't you sing on it? It is just for fun." He turns on the microphone and I improvise on the spot Hashem Ori. During Chodesh Elul until Shemini Atzeres, Hashem Ori is recited daily so these verses just immediately popped up in my head. Also this chapter of Tehillim was especially significant to me since that was my chapter I said everyday that year.
And then we did another song- Al B'apcha Tochicheini – from Selichos… Once we had these three songs,.. . I started to like them – and was thinking – if I composed them… they are my style…– and -Hey I am not selling this stuff… I am singing it… (don't worry.. MBD wannabes – I have got 1000s other songs. If you really want one, we could negotiate…) and this is how this project started.
Thank You Hashem for everything! Thanks Todd for your amazing work!
And Thank you for listening to my music. I hope you enjoy this album…
